The Journey is the Destination

Well it's taken just a little over 18 months, but Peter is finally walking. I have to say, there are some advantages to a child who doesn't walk until 18 months. Namely - he's easier to chase. Also, he doesn't screech when he's in his stroller because he wants to get out and walk even though it takes him approximately 10 minutes to go one short city block.

Peter is like a puppy - the newness of walking means he stops at every interesting thing and pauses to take a sniff. Also he insists on carrying things when he walks - the other day it was his lunchbox. Today it was his beloved ball. Sometimes it's keys, or as he calls them "dees". The nurse at the health centre kindly warned us that perhaps letting a child who doesn't quite walk stroll around with a sharp object pointed at his face wasn't exactly a brilliant idea, but there are a lot of screaming matches when we enforce that rule.

Still, it's so fun to see him strolling about. We call him "Frankenstein" because as he approaches his destination, he holds out his arms and just sort of collapses towards it.

And it's teaching me to stop and smell the proverbial roses. We don't have to race to get a coffee - there's plenty of time to stop and throw a ball up some stranger's steps.

Sniff, sniff - my little bunny is turning into a real little boy.
