13.5 months

Wow - I am listening to Obama's acceptance speech - what a wonderful time this is for the world... so much hope for the future and for our children.

Much like the presidential campaign, this month has had ups and downs. Downs included a 2-week long cold for both me and Peter. In fact, my throat is still sore in the evening... Peter had several days of being extremely under the weather with gummy eyes and streaming nose and a need for lots and lots of sleep (unfortunately, rather fractured, restless sleep).

The ups - pretty much everything else.

Peter now has quite a few words that he uses regularly. He's also quite a good mimic and will repeat different sounds. But the words he uses regularly and with meaning are:
bah (bye)
oht (hot, also means food)
dada (daddy)
mumum (mum, milk, where are you???)
os (adios - did I mention his caregiver is Spanish?)
aya (hola)
ayh (hi)

He is still a cuddlebug and loves to snuggle; that was one of the nice things about him being sick - him all curled up in my arms. He has several new skills and seems to pick something up every day. For example he stood up and opened the door for the first time; he was very pleased with himself, but going to the bathroom on my own just got even harder. He loves to put the lights on. He plays with his ball and chases it everywhere. He gives lots of kisses when asked. He likes to sort things too - for example he will take all sorts of things and line them up on the windowsill or the floor, and then put them all back in.

He also loves to wear necklaces. I was using my jewellery box to entertain him a while ago and now EVERYTHING gets used as a necklace - the other day he wrapped the laptop power cord around his neck. Woops! Little safety hazard there!

He points at everything and "asks" for things he wants - read me a book, pass me that, hold me, etc. - he can convey all of that with a little "uh? uh?", a point and a few bats of those mile-long lashes.
